Top of the pots, a local pottery studio, launched a competition for local schools. Whichever school got the most ‘likes’ on facebook won a special prize - every child and adult in the school would get to paint their own tile!
Winkfield St Mary’s parents and friends got on the case and achieved over 1K likes to come first - an amazing achievement for a small school – well done everyone!
We wanted our tiles to reflect everyone’s personality and recognise that we are all unique creations – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.” Jeremiah 1:5. We are all different and special, but we must recognise and celebrate each other’s uniqueness too, rather than showing prejudice or intolerance.
We took the book ‘Only One You’ as our inspiration – click here to see an animated version on youtube - and designed our own fish to represent ourselves.
19th October 2018
Today was the day that the lovely staff from Top of the Pots came into school with the tiles and paint loaded in their van. The children were so excited and couldn’t wait for their turn to paint. Children Y5 and Y6 were a great help to the younger children as it was a little bit tricky!
The tiles are now in the kiln to be fired and soon will be back in school waiting to be fixed to the side of the Year 6 classroom where everyone in our school can see the unique individuals who make up our school body.
Thank you ‘Top of the Pots’, you have enabled us to make a very special feature for our school – something which will help us to understand each other for many years to come.
Our tiles are nearly all fired now and we look forward to seeing them all soon!
