WELCOME TO YEAR 5!

Hello Year 5! I hope everybody had a lovely Easter break and are now feeling well rested and ready to come back to school! We enter into the Summer Term (and hopefully better weather!) where we will continue at a fast pace with all of our learning. Please take a look at our Half Termly overview to see more specifically what your children will be learning about across the curriculum. The spellings are also listed on this page in case you lose the physical copy which was given out to the children!

In Year 5,  the school values (REACH) and John 10:10 'Living life to the full' are at the heart of our school day. We are encouraged to be the best version of ourselves, embrace new learning opportunities and value collaboration. Expectations in Year 5 are extremely high: impeccable behaviour, hard work, learning from our mistakes, showing kindness and respect to others as well as a willingness to try everything, all help to support us to be our best.

In Year 5, we are supported by:

  • Mr Dolby - Class teacher (PE Lead, Computing Lead, Online Safety Lead and DDSL)
  • Ms Hall - Teaching Assistant
  • Mrs Hobbs - HLTA
  • Mrs Granados - Learning support assistant

We will use our online learning platform: Studybugs to post regular updates and any changes to our usual schedule. As always, if you have any questions at any time, please do not hesitate to contact us via the school office or come and speak to us in person at the end of the day.

Enjoying our Reading!

Year 5 is all about enjoying reading, now that we have mastered the skill of reading. We have lots of books in our book corner, which our book corner monitors keep lovely and tidy. We visit our amazing new library every week and are learning to use the 'easy to use' library system. We have the opportunity to read every day either by ourselves or with an adult and have a dedicated story time at the end of each day when we listen to Mr Dolby read!

Homework

This year, we are no longer setting specific tasks each week, but will instead be setting spellings each week ready for our test on Monday morning. Spellings can be found below for the current half term. However, the children are still expected to read frequently (recording this in their reading records) and practice their times tables (see useful links.)

On some occasions, uncompleted work from school may be sent home as homework. However, this will only be if the child has been messing around or hasn't been trying with their work and so hopefully this won't be a regular occurrence!
