The Hub
SEN Hub (introduced in September 2025)
Our SEN hub, called simply ‘The Hub’, is intended to provide a carefully designed and inclusive foundation subject curriculum for children with more complex additional needs. It runs each afternoon and is lead by our Autism Fast Responder together with a small team of skilled staff - all under the guidance of the SENCo. It is particularly designed for Key Stage 2 pupils who have more complex additional needs and those with an EHCP who are working at a Key Stage 1 level in most areas of learning. Where appropriate, the provision is also used by Reception/Key Stage 1 pupils. We are committed to meeting the individual needs of each child as outlined in their EHCPs. In planning a foundation subject curriculum that is personalised to their individual strengths, challenges, and learning styles these children’s needs can be met within a socially supportive environment.
We aim to enable these pupils to access learning in a range of ways that best suit their individual needs and learning styles. Learning in The Hub is planned to include visual, practical, tactile, multi-sensory, and creative approaches. Alongside academic progress, we place strong emphasis on developing children’s social skills, independence, and emotional regulation. Social learning opportunities are embedded within a supportive group setting, using the Zones of Regulation to help pupils better understand and manage their emotions.
Our provision includes timetabled access to Nurture support, ELSA (from January 2026), Speech and Language Therapy (SALT), and Occupational Therapy (OT), ensuring a holistic approach to each child’s development. This provision takes place daily from 1:15–2:45pm within The Hub, while ensuring that children remain fully included as members of their mainstream class.
Inclusivity is at the heart of our approach: children are both valued members of their class community and participants in The Hub. Class teachers retain overall responsibility for their pupils, ensuring that all provision is joined-up, consistent, and meaningful.
