Welcome to Our Reception Class Pages
In Reception we are always busy and have lots of fun and adventures as we learn lots of new things, work hard and play. We have a safe and secure environment and learn in a structured and stimulating setting using lots of fun and exciting resources. Our highly experienced and qualified teachers and teaching assistants are:
Mrs Hartland (Monday to Wednesday)
Mrs Evans (Thursday and Friday)
Ms Birkett (Monday to Friday)
Feel free to come and speak to any of us if you have any questions and concerns. Alternatively you can put a note in your child's reading record for us to read or e-mail us and we will respond to your messages as soon as possible.
Reception year at Winkfield St Mary's is an important foundation to their learning and we have created a curriculum which will prepare children to be ready for Year 1 learning. You can access a document which explains this here.
On this page you will find key diary dates and details of our home learning for the Autumn Term 2021. Reading books will be changed 2 times a week on a Monday and Thursday. Never force your child to read but aim to read with them as often as possible. Please remember to sign the reading record so we know they have read their book.

Diary Dates Spring 2022
Half Term - Monday 14th February - Friday 18th February
INSET DAY - 4th January
TERM STARTS - 5th January
TERM ENDS - Friday 1st April
SUMMER TERM STARTS - Tuesday 19th April
Reading books will continue to be changed on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure you write in the reading diary when you have read with your child (every evening if possible). Also, during the Spring Term we send home five words each week for your child to learn to read (not spell at this stage). The intention is that they will learn to read these words 'by sight' to increase their sight vocabulary. New words will be given each Monday (starting from Monday 10th January). Please ensure the homework books are kept in your child's book bag so we can add any new words. Additionally we have a homework grid for both half terms for you to complete when convenient to you and your child. (see below)
