Vision and values

Our vision at Winkfield St Mary’s is for all pupils, staff and the school community

to aspire to reach their God given potential by developing their academic, personal and spiritual talents; to equip pupils with the key personal skills and mental resilience to make positive contributions to our global community.

I have come that they may have life and have it to the full’ John 10:10

Mission statement - ‘Wisdom and wonder’

Wisdom

Wisdom, of course, includes all of the academic learning in school, and children will cover a wide range of subject and ideas during their time in school. Winkfield St Mary’s strives for excellent attainment and progress for all children.

However being wise is not the same as being smart or clever, and it can include numerous other areas such as: common sense, being ‘people smart’, thinking deeply, making good choices and understanding how things work, to name but a few.

At Winkfield St Mary’s it is our mission to promote wisdom in all its forms so that our children may reach their potential and are well equipped for the future.

Wonder

‘Wonder’ also has numerous connotations with rich meaning. Our mission is to develop children who wonder. Who wonder, for example, about why things are as they are, about how they could make a difference, about God and the wonderful world we live in, and about how their learning links together. It reflects deeper thinking on an academic, social and spiritual level which the school aims to inspire.

At Winkfield St Mary’s it is our mission to develop wonder in all its forms so that our children’s lives are enriched and deepened.

Core values

Feedback from parents, children, staff and governors presented a clear, shared view on the values that are most important to our community.  As Governors brought these ideas together, we felt that just as ‘wisdom and wonder’ has multiple layers of meaning, so do our values.  In leaving them as single words, we hope that you will reflect on the many aspects of each word without the need for copious explanation.

Instead, we have taken all of the suggested words which are connected to each value and created some word art to show the richness of each one.  As we move forward, these will be illustrated with examples from our school life which demonstrate an aspect of each core value in action. In this way we seek to keep the values alive and ever-changing in their interpretation.

REACH

‘Be kind and compassionate to one another’ Eph 4:32

To help our core values to be memorable, we have arranged them into an acrostic which binds them all together – REACH.  The word ‘reach’ suggests ambition, compassion, community, action, being on a journey together and many other ideas which we will enjoy exploring with the children every year.
